We are working together to improve health for all. Everyone should have access to the care they need, and should have the chance to lead a healthy lifestyle.
BUILDING BRIDGES TO BETTER HEALTH
A HEALTHIER SOMERSET INITIATIVE
The "Building Bridges to Better Health" movement is working to make Bound Brook and South Bound Brook healthier and stronger communities.
At the beginning of the project:
We asked for community input from residents with focus groups, interviews, and a survey.
We gathered data on health, demographics, and other community issues.
We used the community input and other data to write a "Blueprint for Action". This plan has 5 specific strategies to make Bound Brook and South Bound Brook healthier places to live. Click one of the strategies below to learn more.
Now, we are working together to implement the 5 strategies from the "Blueprint for Action".
A directory of local resources and services is available online.
4-H Student Ambassadors painted street murals and built a “parklet” to improve walkability and sense of community.
Bound Brook launched a community garden in the spring of 2019, and South Bound Brook plans to start a community garden at the Abraham Staats House.
Both towns are exploring options for a Farmer’s Market. A Farmer’s Market voucher program has helped improve residents’ access to fresh produce for the past 3 years.
Free bike helmets were distributed to kids in both towns by police.
The AWARE committee focuses on mental health at Bound Brook High School (also serves students from South Bound Brook). The school is working toward hosting a part-time counseling service for students and community members. They are also exploring funding options for starting a community health clinic.
Both towns have prioritized “Complete Streets”, which are roads designed for all users, including walkers, bikers, drivers, and transit riders of all ages and abilities.
CULTURE OF HEALTH
Building a Culture of Health means working together to improve health for all.
Everyone has access to the care they need and all families have the opportunity to make healthier choices. In a Culture of Health, communities flourish and individuals thrive.
